Who We Are

The Alain Locke Initiative is a nonprofit mentorship organization dedicated to empowering young Black gay and bisexual men in Seattle. Inspired by the legacy of Alain Locke, the father of the Harlem Renaissance, we believe in the power of education, mentorship, and community to shape the next generation of leaders.

Our mission is to provide mentorship, professional development, scholarships, and career pathways that help young Black LGBTQ+ men navigate life’s challenges, complete their education, and access opportunities that allow them to thrive.

At the Alain Locke Initiative, we recognize that representation matters. By fostering a supportive network of professionals, mentors, and community leaders, we create spaces where young men can embrace their identities, develop their skills, and confidently step into their futures.

We are committed to building a legacy of leadership, excellence, and empowerment—because when we uplift one another, we create lasting change.
